Electronic detox
Sorry I've been absent and no happy news have been posted, but I'm having a electronic detox with pretty much no phone, TV or internet. I'll be back as soon as my electronic friends are working again!

Miracles do happen
Eventhough it seems unlikely for any survivers to be found in the collapsed houses in Japan at this moment, a miracle happened yesterday. Sumi Abe, 80 years old, and her grand child were found after being trapped for 9 days. Dispite the odds, they survived on yoghurts and were ok when the rescuers found them. In all the chaos that is happening, a little light of hope goes a long way.

Grey's at work
If you choose to believe there own stories, staff at Swedish hospitals reveal that it is a "Grey's anatomy" atmosphere at their workplace. It's a "flirty environment" where many have relationships with each other. The Swedish Statistical Bureau state that the hospitals have the environment where the most staff has relationships at work. Next catagory is police, then teachers. Maybe the environment isn't as sterile as one might think.

No soccer wife there
Today's Swedish Metro discusses the latest news in the world of soccer (or football as we say in Europe), a Swedish elite football player came out as homosexual. This shouldn't be any great news, but it can't be easy in a stereotypical macho environment, with all your team mates constantly talking about babes. Personally I think that this is good news and hopefully he inspires others that are still hiding in the closet.

Get satisfied - by the power of the mind
This is me, this very moment. Enjoying some chocolate with my coffee. Chewing on my sweets, I stumble over an article who argues that you can ease your sweet tooth, just by imagining yourself eating candy. If you picture yourself eating candy, one piece at the time, it is possible to get rid of your crawing, at least after 30 imagined sweets. Whether this applies to food and meals also, is yet to be seen.

DiCaprio fights for the tigers
The WWF magazine summarizes the output of 2010 and one of the stories that stand out is Leonardo DiCaprio's dedication to save the tigers. He donated 1 000 000 dollar to WWF and was out himself in the djungle to assist them in their fieldwork. DiCaprio also wrote an article that was published in the Washington Post, arguing that "if we save the tigers, we save the planet". Read the whole article here.

Mediterranean food = happiness?
Debbie Mandel, author of Addicted to stress, argues that certain food can help you to reduce stress. Particularily good is the Mediterranean diet which includes:
Fruits & veggies
Fish
Olive oil
Low-fat dairy products: primarily yogurt and cheese
Wine in moderation

That sounds like a diet that would make anyone just a little bit happier. Add some dark chocolate (min. 70%) to that and I say it's the ultimate meal!
Never loose hope
Usatoday.com published an article about Grant Korgan who was paralyzed in a snowmobile accident. Despite the doctors in rehab telling him he would never walk, and to not spend money on rehab, but to go on a cruise instead, since they were newlyweds. Grant and his wife Shawna never gave up on the idea of him walking again. With great hope, dedication and help from his wife Grant had small victories throughout this process and just two weeks ago, he stood up, on his own, without crutches. A year after the accident, Grant can now feel his legs and feet.
A quote from Grant Korgan:
"When I first got hurt people told me not to have false hope. What is false hope? I hate that expression. You either have it or you don't. You can't have false hope. Hope is just hope, and it's OK to have it."
Anything's possible...

Nothing like a happy ending
This blog is created to keep you updated, on the good things going on in the world. On a daily basis, we are fed with terrible accidents, tsunamis, earth quakes, violence, war, murders etc. The idea is not to close your eyes to what is really happening, but to balance all the madness with some positive news too.
